Cari amici,

This is my world: music!! And today I want to share some music with you. I was born and raised in Venice Italy and so is the song of today’s blog!!

"Io Che Non Vivo Senza Te" is a song written by Venetian singer and songwriter Pino Donaggio and Vito Pallavicini in 1965.

Pino Donaggio, also a singer, performed this song the same year at the Sanremo Festival. The British singer Dusty Springfield was also guest of the Festival, heard it and she loved it. She went back to London and presented it to Vicki Wickham and Simon Napier-Bell, who wrote the English lyrics for the song. Released in early 1966 with the title “You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me” the song became a huge hit and remains one of the songs most identified with her.

The song hit #1 in the UK, the only #1 of Springfield's career in the UK, and #4 in the USA.
In 2004, the song made the Rolling Stone list of The 500 Greatest Songs Of All Time.
I always loved the song and I was so happy to record it in my latest CD ”And I Love You So”. Here is a clip from a live show.

"Io Che Non Vivo Senza Te" a song famous all over the world just like Venice, the city where the song and also myself were born. The Italian title means "I,  who can't live without you"...and indeed if you go to Venice you won't be able to take it away from your heart ever!

I still have my own house in Venice and I try to go there at list two times a year to see my family, friends and my Venice. Also Pino Donaggio still lives in Venice and nowadays is a very successful music composer for films and TV.

Stay tuned for my Friday blog about the “Sergio Franchi Memorial Concert”.

Love always and have a great day,

  1. Thank you so much, Giada, for this lovely background! I was searching for info about Io Che Non Vivo Senza Te because I saw IL VOLO sing it in Taormina in July 2014, and I am absolutely smitten with the song! (And of course, with IL VOLO!) The song feels like it is part of the Italian heart and joy and togetherness. And it is so precious to me that I feel as if I have experienced that landscape many times.

    In gratitude and joy,
